Q: What led you to become a Surrogate?
I have wanted to be a surrogate ever since I was young; the thought of wanting a child so bad and not being able to have one absolutely wrecked me. I know several people who are unable to have children of their own or who want more but have been unsuccessful, and I truly wish I could give everyone a baby who is unable to have one or help complete families of those who aren’t capable of having more children.
Q. Who was the most significant support person throughout your journey?
My husband and my family for sure! I was a little nervous bringing it up to them because not everyone looks at it as the beautiful thing that it is, but they all supported me from day one and never tried to steer me away from it.
Q. What made you decide to choose your Intended Parents?
Honestly, the conversation came so easy and natural. We knew as soon as the match meeting was over that they were the ones we wanted to go with.
Q. What are some of the highlights of your journey?
There were several highlights in my journey, such as the relationship that the intended parents and I formed, being able to meet their daughter and being referred to as her “ auntie “. Being able to work with such an amazing agency that really went above and beyond to make sure my journey was perfect and, last but certainly not least, being able to experience pregnancy again in a new way! My intended parents trusted me with their biggest gift, and I couldn’t be more thankful.
Q. Do you have advice for women who are interested in becoming a gestational surrogate?
The number one thing I would tell anyone looking to become a surrogate is to make sure they have a strong support system to help navigate the potential challenges of surrogacy, another big thing is to make sure they prioritize their own health and comfort throughout the journey! They should understand that yes, they are carrying someone else’s baby, BUT their feelings are still very much valid, and this is also their journey as much as it’s the IPs.

Q: What did you find was the biggest misconception people had about surrogacy?
A big misconception I kept running into as a surrogate was people thinking I wouldn’t be able to let the baby go—you go into it knowing this baby has NOTHING to do with you, really. Yes, I feel like I formed a bond with the baby in a way. I mean, I did carry him for 9 whole months, but I never felt any sort of attachment at the end. Honestly, it was so beautiful seeing the reactions of the parents in the end. I mean, this IS why we do this whole thing.
Q: How has becoming a surrogate impacted your life?
Becoming a surrogate has impacted my life in such an amazing way; I’m still in awe that I was able to do this for someone else! It’s made me feel so strong and just like i blossomed into this whole new person after my journey, like i really did that!
Q: Was this pregnancy different than your other pregnancies? If so, how?
I’d say this pregnancy was a bit different than my other pregnancies; it was actually surprisingly easier than my own, which I was not going into it expecting it to be, but this boy was really easy on my body, and for that I’m eternally grateful!
