Meet Shalane!
“FSC has been amazing since the very first day. They helped me throughout the WHOLE journey. I’ve never felt confused or abandoned.“
Shalane is an incredible surrogate who delivered an adorable baby girl for a loving family.
Q: What led you to become a Surrogate?
My friend did a journey with FSC a few years back. She shared her experience and I just fell in love with the feeling to help a family with their dream. Additionally, I work for an OBGYN and I see first hand the excitement and also the sadness of this journey.
Q. Who was the most significant support person throughout your journey?
My IPs were so supportive. They were there, whether it was by phone, FaceTime, or physically there every step of the way. My family, though from a distance, were always checking on me. They finally came towards the end of the journey. My work family, I wouldn’t know what to do without them. Though they didn’t let me do anything, lol, they made sure to always take care of me.
Q. What made you decide to choose your Intended Parents?
H & A were just perfect. When we first interviewed, they were so caring and just looked so excited about this journey. They gave me positive and loving vibes. They were just so calm and allowed me to fully tell my story.
Q. What are some of the highlights of your journey?
The highlight that completely jumbled me in this journey was when we first saw the baby at our 7 week ultrasound. Also, when we were able to graduated and now continue our care with the OB. It’s a moment I can’t express in words.
Q. Do you have advice for women who are interested in becoming a gestational surrogate?
People have so many opinions on being a surrogate but I realize many don’t know very much of it. I recommend do your research, ask questions, reach out to a surrogacy agency to get more information, if you know someone who has done it have a sit and listen to their journey. If I can do it so can you!
Q. How do you feel about your experience working with Family Source Consultants?
FSC has been amazing since the very first day. [They] helped throughout the WHOLE journey. I’ve never felt confused or abandoned. Every time I had a questions or wasn’t sure about something I was always able to reach out and they return my text or call within minutes. They are ALWAYS available.
Q: What did you find was the biggest misconception people had about surrogacy?
Again every journey is different but my biggest misconception people have about surrogacy is the ending of the journey. Letting go of the baby. You just know that this journey is for a reason and purpose. And the faces of your IPs when they get to hold their baby is priceless.
Q: What would you like other people to know about surrogacy?
Surrogacy isn’t easy and sometimes could make you feel defeated but I promise you it all worth it at the end.
Q: How has becoming a surrogate impacted your life?
Surrogacy has impacted my life in the most positive way. I am 3 weeks post partum as I type this and I still can’t believe I did this, but I am so happy that I did. I still have no words to explain the feelings I have after completing this journey. I am just blessed that I am able to.
Q: How did you prepare yourself for separating from the baby after birth?
I knew from the very beginning the purpose of this journey so having her and handing her to her parents wasn’t hard at all. She was where she belonged.
Q: Is there anything else you’d like to share with us regarding your experience as a Surrogate?
Thank you for helping us surrogates and the families out there that need it. You guys make it so easy to go through the process and the journey.
