Nikki completed her first journey on December 7, 2017, giving birth to a baby boy for Intended Parents H&P. H&P had been waiting for some time to complete their family and stood out to her over all of the other potential matches. Nikki knew she was meant to be the one who was able to do that for them!
What led you to become a Surrogate?
I wanted to help complete a family. I couldn’t imagine life without my son or how it would feel like to not be able to have children at all and if I were ever unable to have a child of my own that surrogacy would be a possibility for me as well.
Who was your most significant support person/s throughout your Surrogacy journey?
My biggest support was my whole family well mainly my parents, they never went a day without calling and checking one me which made this journey so much easier.
How did your children react to you being a surrogate? How did you tell them?
Thankfully, my son is very mature for his age, so I explained everything to him before even starting the process in becoming a surrogate. He asked a lot of questions but, in all, he was completely understating.
What comment(s) or question(s) from strangers do/did you get most often?
I would get anything from, “well won’t you be too attached to give the baby up”, “that’s an amazing and selfless thing that you are doing for someone’’, to probably the most said comment “Wow, you must be getting paid a lot for doing that”.
What is the best/most exciting part of being a Surrogate?
I would have to say the best and most exciting part about being a surrogate was when my surro baby finally made his entrance and the look on his and my family’s faces, everyone was so proud and happy. It was one of the most amazing feelings!
How is being a Surrogate different than your own pregnancy(ies)?
Being a surrogate was very different than that of my own. When I became pregnant with my son, everything went smooth and easy. With the surrogacy pregnancy, no so much. I was sick probably half of my pregnancy with my surro baby.
What were some of the highlights of your Surrogacy journey?
One of the highlights from this Journey was the look on other people’s faces once I told them that I was a surrogate! I found joy in that each time! ha-ha! And of course finally meeting and getting to hold baby boy once he was finally here.
Do you have advice for women who are interested in becoming a gestational surrogate?
Making the choice to become a surrogate is the most amazing and selfless thing that you could ever do for someone. Sometimes the journey might not be as easy as most would believe, but it will most defiantly be worth it!
I would love to say thank you FSC for trusting and allowing me to help complete a family, this journey has really opened my eyes so much and was by far one of the most amazing experiences despite all that I went through.
