Meet Marisa!

“Family Source Consultants was supportive and helpful in every step along the way! I will be forever grateful for the perfect match that they made for me in my journey. “

Q: What led you to become a Surrogate?

I had the privilege of seeing a close friend go through 2 surrogacy journeys with FSC. I accompanied her on her second transfer and really felt moved by the amazing surrogates starting their journeys and the families struggling to conceive.

Q. Who was/is your greatest support person/s throughout your journey?

[My friend and fellow surrogate] was a huge support to me. She accompanied me to my transfer and was always available to me for any questions. My family was also wonderful. My husband was very accepting and helped me with most of my injections. My kids were so interested in all the details of pregnancy and loved the idea that “we” were helping to create another family.

Q. What made you decide to choose your Intended Parents?

I loved the pictures they chose to put in their profile. I could see they enjoy food and travel like our family. They sounded so eager to start a loving family, and as 2 dads, just needed the help of a space to grow their little one!

Q. What are some of the highlights of your journey?

My pregnancy was easy and uneventful. I felt supported by my family and friends and IPs the whole way through. I loved giving updates to my IF after my OB appointments and sending him belly bump and ultrasound pictures. The absolute highlight was welcoming sweet [baby] into the world. He came early, before his dad could get here from the UK, but from the minute I put him in his dad’s arms I’ve had the honor of watching him develop the most beautiful bond with his son which makes my heart want to burst. In their time here, my family and I have been able to share in his newborn weeks, cook together, eat together and grow in our relationship as well. I was not intending to add to my family in this process, but I am ever so grateful that I have!

Q. Do you have advice for women who are interested in becoming a gestational surrogate?

Being a gestational surrogate is incredibly rewarding! People are often very concerned about how difficult it will be to separate after delivery. From my experience and with other surrogates I’ve encountered, it’s a very different experience than carrying your own children. For me there was still a bond and a sense of protection for the baby, but from the beginning you know you’re doing this for another family.

Q. What did you find was the biggest misconception people had about surrogacy?

Many people are unfamiliar with IVF and the science that has come so far in fertility treatments. I found I had to explain to many people that the baby was in no way biologically mine.

Q. What did you do to prepare yourself for separating from the baby after it was born?

I realized during this pregnancy just how much time I spend during my own pregnancies visualizing welcoming my new baby into my home. I would imagine how I’ll care for them, the nursery, the clothes, their school, their future. I spent that energy during this pregnancy sharing with my IP and imagining passing his baby boy into his arms.
