Meet Holly!
“I never once felt alone in this process, I always felt as though I had someone walking me through the entire journey from beginning to end. “
Q: What led you to become a Surrogate?
A neighbor of mine was a surrogate growing up. That sparked my interest. Then when I had easy labors/deliveries of my own I knew it was something I had to do.
Q. Who was/is your greatest support person/s throughout your journey?
My husband.
Q. What made you decide to choose your Intended Parents?
One of the first photos I saw of them, they were with Mickey and Minnie. I’ve gone to Disney every year growing up and continue to go frequently now as an adult. Also, after reading their story I felt an immediate connection.
Q. What are some of the highlights of your journey?
When I first met my IP’s, I had my 5 year old daughter with me. The IP’s did not speak English and despite that my daughter and IM had a bond almost instantly and spent the whole time at lunch “talking” to each other.
Q. Do you have advice for women who are interested in becoming a gestational surrogate?
Its an unforgettable experience from beginning to end. It can sometimes feel like things could move faster, especially in the beginning, but when it’s over it feels like it all happened in the blink of an eye. Soak it all in.
Q. What did you find was the biggest misconception people had about surrogacy?
I had to explain a lot that the baby had none of my genetics.
Q. What would you like other people to know about surrogacy?
It doesn’t always have to be for someone you “know”. By the end of it, they become someone you’ll never forget.
Q. How has becoming a surrogate impacted your life?
Realizing how many people struggle with infertility was an eye opener. I’ve become more conscious of every day questions like “when are you going to have a baby?” You never know what people are going through.
Q. How was this pregnancy different from your other pregnancies?
I didn’t feel like much of anything was different. Due to being “IVF” I was cared for differently by my doctor with the amount of visits and different tests and other things they watch for with IVF patients.
Q. What did you do to prepare yourself for separating from the baby after it was born?
I didn’t worry much about this. I was in a good place mentally and emotionally and very comfortable with knowing the baby was going to a family that deserved her so, so much.
Q. What would you tell someone who was considering working with a surrogate?
Jump in. 🙂
