Family Source Consultants is a proud supporter of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ) community – and is continually honored to help so many members of this community build their families through egg donation and surrogacy. As such, FSC, along with much of the nation, and even many international cities, took the opportunity this past June to celebrate Pride month!

Pride month exists in the United States to celebrate LGBTQ rights in a month long celebration, dating back to 1969. This past June marked 50 years since the Stonewall Uprising in Manhattan – a monumental event which is considered the tipping point in bringing recognition to the LGBTQ liberation movement. Across the states, big and small cities alike recognize the significance of this month by organizing conferences, parties, parades, concerts, festivals, picnics, and other informational and celebratory events to uplift, highlight, and normalize the LBGTQ community.

Since FSC could not send all staff to NYC to celebrate – the agency also celebrated locally with a rainbow themed staff conference and discussion on the significance of Pride month. As part of the celebratory day, TeamFSC got the opportunity to visit with some proud new fathers, and also a TeamFSC egg donor who is assisting a same sex couple. The take away from our day of celebration and learning: FSC is one of the most inclusive, open minded, loving groups of people – and we will continually strive and learn and grow to ensure we are assisting our clients with as much empathy and knowledge as possible.

Outside of a single month of celebration, FSC has been a proud supporter of Men Having Babies (MHB) across the years. MHB is an organization dedicated to unbiased surrogacy parenting advice and support for gay men worldwide. To accomplish their mission, MHB facilitates and hosts surrogacy workshops and seminars across the world, and FSC has been a gold or platinum sponsor for many of these events.

Here at Family Source, our goal is to build families – and we know that families come in all shapes and sizes. Consequentially, approximately 50% of the families we build are comprised of members of the LGBTQ community. Same sex couples cannot have biological children without egg donors and gestational carriers (sometimes still called surrogate mothers), and our agency works tirelessly to find the best possible matches to allow these intended parents to become fathers to the children they yearn for. Similarly, we also work with many single individuals, oftentimes members of the LGBTQ community, to grow their families, as well.

Pride month, June 2019, was a great time of reflection and celebration for FSC. We are grateful to have played a small role across the years in supporting the LGBTQ movement, and look forward to continued support, and importantly, in helping to build many more families in the years to come!
