What led you to become an Egg Donor?

I was inspired to be an Egg Donor by my friend when she’d heard I might not want to have kids myself. After contemplating the idea of helping out an individual, or couple, who dreamt of a family, but couldn’t have children of their own, I was very moved. I figured what better way to ‘pay forward’ the healthy genes I’d been gifted, by helping others achieve such a fulfilling life goal. I was very honored to have played a part in the possibility of a new loving family.

Who was your largest support person(s) throughout your journey?

During my donation process, my cousin was wonderful support for me. Many people are so unfamiliar with Medicine’s ability to make egg donation possible, they aren’t sure what to ask. My cousin, especially, showed eager curiosity about the whole experience, and made sure to get feedback about how it was going every step of the way. I felt very fortunate to have someone I could share my feelings and excitement with, before, during, and after.

What made you decide to be closed/semi-open/open with your Intended Parents?

My most recent donation was anonymous. I was open to any way, because I wanted the most comfortability for the Intended Parent(s). I felt equal satisfaction with anonymous, as I did open, because I knew, either way, there was great appreciation and anticipation on the other end. Anyone willing and able to have a child from an egg donor I believe has extreme love for their future family, and for the child who they will now be able to call their own. It was easy to do my small part, given my awareness of how large the reward.

Do you have advice for women who are interested in becoming an Egg Donor?

For anyone interested in becoming an Egg Donor, I would recommend it without a doubt. I felt almost no reservation throughout the entire process.  I feel that if I could do it, without any issue or concern, anyone can. I suggest sooner is better, in case it’s something you really enjoy, you’d have the opportunity to make that positive impact again. With any inclination or willingness to have that have that kind of an affect, I suggest giving it a try. I believe the potential risks are quite minimal, and the reward is extremely great. It seems to me like there’s nothing to lose; but tons to gain. I believe if I did not do it, I would have always wondered ‘what if’ I had. This way, I will always know that I offered a priceless gift that will last forever.

Family Source Consultants was a wonderful partner during my donations. The coordinators I was paired with were completely helpful and supportive, all along the way. They arranged everything I needed, so the whole process went smooth and easy. If I had any confusion, they were there to assist. I traveled from the West Coast, and each time they made sure I was well taken care of, and prepared, for my travel needs. I really enjoyed working with them, and I’m very thankful for the care they showed me during my egg donations.
