I couldn’t have asked for or imagined a better donation experience than the one I had these past few months. From day 1, the people I had the pleasure of working with at FSC treated me like family. They were there to answer every single question, day and night, and it truly feels like I’ve made lifelong friends with so many of them. I traveled from Boston to Chicago for the donation process. I was a little bummed in the beginning about having to travel alone, but after the monthly donor luncheon, and some delicious Ramen, I had made a great new friend. We were both in the city at the same time, on the same medication schedule and even ended up triggering on the same day, I called her my “trigger twin”. It was amazing having someone to enjoy the city with, and to talk to about all the crazy things our bodies were doing. I never thought I would enjoy exploring a city as cold as Chicago in January! Even the staff at the hotel were great. I was warmly welcomed every time I came back, and made quick friends with two of the breakfast cooks, we would chat and watch the news each morning. By the time the process and retrieval was over I was sad to leave, but excited to get home to tell everyone about how much I enjoyed the experience. I’m already looking forward to my second donation. Everyone I worked with was so kind and compassionate, they were always there for me, and I felt very lucky to have them with me during the process. The experience for me was more rewarding than I could have imagined, knowing that I was able to play a part in creating a family is something I will always feel proud of and grateful for.
